Open LMS Highlights

Snap: Table of Contents support for Tiles Course Format

The new Table of Contents (TOC) functionality is now also available when using the Tiles course format in the Snap theme.

All capabilities introduced with the new TOC in Snap are supported in this format, including:

  • Collapsible sections for easier navigation through course content

  • A complete list of all activities in the course

  • Activity icons for quick identification of activity types

  • Availability details displayed directly in the TOC

  • Completion tracking indicators to help learners easily see their progress

This enhancement improves course navigation and provides instructors and learners with a clearer overview of course structure when using the Tiles format with Snap.

Snap: Bulk Actions Support

Bulk actions are now supported in the Snap theme, allowing instructors to perform common activity management tasks more efficiently.

The following actions can now be performed in bulk:

  • Update availability

  • Move activities

  • Copy activities

  • Delete activities

To use this feature:

  1. Enable Edit mode in the course.

  2. Click the new “Bulk actions” button that appears in the section.

  3. Select the activities you want to modify using the checkboxes next to each activity.

  4. Choose the action you want to apply.

Once at least one activity is selected, a “Select all” option becomes available, allowing you to quickly apply the action to all activities within that section.

Note: Bulk actions operate at the section level, following Snap’s single-section course design.

Configuration

This feature can be enabled in:

/admin/settings.php?section=commercesettings

New Settings

  • showproductdetailpage

  • defaultproductbenefitslayout

Behavior

  • If showproductdetailpage is disabled (unchecked):
Users are directed straight to checkout from the catalogue (current behavior).

  • If showproductdetailpage is enabled (checked):
A new “Product information” button is displayed in the catalogue.
Clicking this button redirects users to a dedicated Product Detail Page before proceeding to checkout.

Benefits Layout Options

Two different layouts are available for displaying product benefits:

Administrators can configure the default layout using the:

defaultproductbenefitslayout setting.

Current Scope (Initial Version)

In this initial release:

  • Only Course details are available for expansion within the Product Detail Page.

  • Support for Programs, activities, and other benefit types will be included in a future version.

Accessibility Improvements

As part of our ongoing commitment to accessibility, and in preparation for an upcoming accessibility review this semester, we have addressed several accessibility issues in this release:

  • Contrast: The pink text color (#E83E8C) used in <code> tags did not meet WCAG contrast requirements. An updated accessible style has been implemented.

  • State Indication: The Blocks drawer control now includes the aria-expanded attribute so screen reader users are informed whether the drawer is open or closed.

  • Navigation Structure: The header menu now includes a semantic <nav> element with an aria-label to help assistive technologies correctly identify the navigation area.

  • Context Change: The "Jump to..." dropdown previously triggered an automatic page redirect without notifying assistive technologies. A screen-reader-only warning has been added to inform users before the redirect occurs.

  • Heading Purpose: The page <H1> previously displayed the Site Name instead of describing the page. It has been updated to correctly identify the page as "Snap Theme Settings", ensuring the page purpose is clearly communicated.

These improvements help ensure better compatibility with WCAG accessibility standards and improve the experience for users relying on assistive technologies.

Global Usage Alerts

Stay in control of your site usage with new proactive alerts for Active Users and Data Storage.

When enabled, alerts are displayed across the site as you approach or reach key usage thresholds (80%, 90%, and 100%). These notifications help you take action early, avoid disruptions, and better manage your available resources.

Each alert includes a direct link to a detailed report, making it easy to review your usage and identify next steps.

Administrators can dismiss alerts, which will remain hidden for a configurable period (default: 3 days).

Removal of Atto Editor (Effective July 2026)

As part of the upgrade to Moodle 5.1, scheduled for July 2026, the Atto editor will be fully removed, as previously announced in earlier versions.

The Tiny editor has been set as the default editor for some time, and we have continued to enhance it by adding sub-plugins and capabilities to provide the best possible content creation and editing experience across the platform.

We recognize that some clients may still be using Atto, or allowing end users to choose between Atto and Tiny. For this reason, we strongly recommend planning ahead for this change by promoting and encouraging the use of the Tiny editor prior to the Moodle 5.1 upgrade.

Taking these steps in advance will help ensure a smooth transition and adoption for users who may not yet be fully familiar with the Tiny editor.

Open LMS 5.1 Upgrade

As we prepare for the upcoming Major Upgrade, we invite you to explore what’s new in Moodle 5.0 and 5.1, the versions we will be upgrading to, along with key highlights from the Open LMS platform.

Release Schedule

  • Sandbox Upgrade: June 11, 2026

  • Production Upgrade: July 09, 2026
