Parent and child courses

I'm wondering if it's possible to have a parent (controlling course) with content and users in it that feeds to "child" courses which would have the content of the parent course but would allow individual teachers to edit. I've looked into meta courses a bit but I'm not sure that exactly what I'm looking for.

  The meta class, at least how we use it, is more of a common collection of classes that are themselves fairly independent.  Think of it like All your Spanish 2 classes coming together for a virtual face-to-face.  

  To have each teacher have that independence you are going to need multiple Moodle classes.

  You can swap the idea and make a template class that is copied multiple times.
