Assignment group overrides

apologies - did not know which topic to add this question to...

We are experiencing an issue with due dates (created using group overrides) presenting for users that are in multiple groups.  

What is the purpose for having an option to move the order of group overrides in the overrides screen under the column 'action'?

We have found if a user is in multiple groups, and therefore have multiple group overrides against their name (and these group override dates are different), the override that is listed 1st in the list in the group overrides screen is the one that presents to the user - even if the date is past due e.g. in the screenshot #1 below, there are 2 group overrides - 1 group has a due date that is past (2023). The user that is in both of the listed groups, the due date is showing as 6/2/23 - see screenshot #2 (which is past, and last year's group) - however if I move the order of these group overrides so the 'test group' is listed 1st (see screenshot #3)  - the due date listed on the section page will show 17/4/23 instead (see screenshot #4).

I don't understand the purpose of moving the list in group overrides?  I would think that if the due date is past - show next future due date for the user.
