Does anyone have an idea how to give students a choice to take a quiz in the quiz module or upload a paper copy?

  The following method might be what you are after.

  1. Make one of each item and place both in a single grade category.

  2. Mark the completion status on both as complete when submission is made

  2. Make the grade category keep the highest 1 grade

  3. Have the Restrict access set such that if either item is completed then the other is 'must not be marked complete'

  I'm definitely going to try that.  Our SIS API is configured so that the Course Completion defines what goes into the student portal on the SIS for the grade and the course completion percentage.  Would that affect the course completion percentage or would the restriction take care of that?

  Unsure for your SIS.  It might take issue with one student doing one item and another doing the other.  Does your SIS do the averages or do you have Moodle calculate the grades?

  Moodle calculates the grades.
