Snap: New Section and Subsection Completion Progress Indicators
Along with the course completion tracking indicator displayed at the top of the Table of Contents (TOC), we have introduced section-level completion progress indicators in the Snap theme.
Each section now displays a label showing how many activities have been completed out of the total number of activities in that section. Only activities with completion tracking enabled are included in this calculation.
This completion progress indicator is also available for subsections, providing more granular visibility into learner progress throughout the course.
New setting to exclude items from the Table of Contents (TOC)
To provide more flexibility for teachers, we have introduced a new custom setting in the Table of Contents that allows instructors to control which activities are visible in the TOC.
This setting is configured at the activity level, meaning teachers can decide when creating or editing an activity, whether it should appear in the TOC. This helps instructors better manage course navigation and flow, keeping the TOC meaningful and focused on educational purposes.
By default, this setting is unchecked. Excluding an activity from the TOC does not affect its visibility or availability anywhere else in the course, it only controls whether the activity appears in the TOC.
Note: This setting is only applicable when using the Snap theme.
New Plugins
| Component | Plugin name | Description |
|---|---|---|
| tiny_multilang2 | Tiny Multi-language content | Adds support for creating and editing multilingual content in the Tiny editor, allowing authors to define language-specific text that is displayed automatically based on the user’s language preferences. |
| local_course_template | Course templates | Allows administrators to define reusable course templates that can be applied when creating new courses, helping standardize structure, settings, and initial content across the site. |
| mod_publication | Publication activity | Online texts and files can be collected and published via the Student Folder activity and thus made available to everyone in a Moodle course. Submissions can be made directly by uploading or can be taken over by teachers from an assignment activity. |
| mod_reengagement | Re-engagement | Allows instructors to automatically remind students to return to a course and complete pending activities after a configurable period based on defined triggers (such as course enrolment or activity completion). If the target activity is already completed, no notification is sent. It can also be used to release time-based content. |
| mod_unilabel | Unilabel | Enables the inclusion of nicely formatted content on the course or front page. Includes multiple content types such as simple text, carousel, collapsed text, course teaser, and topic teaser. |
| block_cohortspecifichtml | Cohort-specific HTML block | Allows administrators to display different HTML content in a block based on a user’s cohort membership, enabling targeted messages or resources for specific groups. |
| tool_courserating | Course rating | Adds the ability for users to rate courses, allowing organizations to gather feedback and insights about course quality directly within Moodle. The Course Rating tool can be disabled in a single step by the site administrator by navigating to: <Site URL>/admin/settings.php?section=tool_courserating
|
| enrol_coursecompleted | Course completion enrolment | Automatically enrolls users into a course when they complete another course, supporting learning pathways and progressive course structures. |
| mod_hotquestion | Hot Question | Provides an activity where students can post questions and vote on them, helping instructors identify the most relevant or popular questions in a course. |
| mod_pdfannotator | PDF annotator | The PDF annotator allows students to insert questions, comments and remarks on learning materials in PDF format directly into the document. Since all students, lecturers and tutors can read and answer the questions and comments asked, it is made easier to clarify open questions on lecture slides, scripts and other PDF learning materials quickly and in a concrete context. |
| mod_poster | Poster activity | Poster is a resource activity module allowing to create a web page. What makes this module unique is that the contents of the poster page is composed of Moodle™ blocks (such as HTML block, Calendar block, Latest news block etc.). It provides yet another place within the course where blocks can be put without polluting the course front page. |
We’re excited to announce the addition of 11 new community plugins, now enabled by default in Sandbox environments. These new tools are part of our ongoing efforts to expand functionality and provide more flexibility to support your learning and training initiatives.
We invite you to explore these plugins in your Sandbox environment and evaluate how they may enhance your courses and user experience. This is a great opportunity to test and identify new capabilities that could benefit your organization.
To maintain a streamlined experience for instructors, these activity (mod) plugins are not enabled by default in production environments. However, they can be activated upon request at any time.
You can also find more information about these plugins in the Moodle Plugins Directory:
https://moodle.org/plugins/
If you are interested in enabling any of these tools in your production environment, please reach out to our team raising a Support ticket we’re happy to help.

Removal of Atto Editor (Effective July 2026)
As part of the upgrade to Moodle 5.1, scheduled for July 2026, the Atto editor will be fully removed, as previously announced in earlier versions.
The Tiny editor has been set as the default editor for some time, and we have continued to enhance it by adding sub-plugins and capabilities to provide the best possible content creation and editing experience across the platform.
We recognize that some clients may still be using Atto, or allowing end users to choose between Atto and Tiny. For this reason, we strongly recommend planning ahead for this change by promoting and encouraging the use of the Tiny editor prior to the Moodle 5.1 upgrade.
Taking these steps in advance will help ensure a smooth transition and adoption for users who may not yet be fully familiar with the Tiny editor.
