Vouchers serve two primary purposes in Open LMS eCommerce:
- Enabling users to purchase on behalf of others
- Allowing vouchers to be created in bulk and distributed outside of the standard payment gateway checkout process
To access the voucher interface, navigate to:
Site Administration → General → Vouchers
From here, you will see several options, but the most commonly used are:
- Create vouchers
- Manage vouchers
- Voucher redemptions
Create vouchers
This page allows you to create one or more vouchers. Vouchers can be linked to course enrollments, products, or both.
Once you enable one or both options, you will be able to select:
- The course(s) the user will be enrolled in upon redemption
- The product(s) that will be granted to the user
To use the Enroll on a course option, the voucher enrollment method must be enabled and properly configured for the selected course(s).
You can also define:
- The number of vouchers to generate
- The maximum number of times each voucher can be redeemed (the default is one)
Once vouchers are created, a CSV file containing the voucher codes will be automatically downloaded. These vouchers will also be available in the Manage vouchers page for future reference.
Manage vouchers
The Manage vouchers page provides a complete list of all vouchers created on the site.
For each voucher, the following information is displayed:
- Voucher name or title
- Redemption code
- Associated benefits (such as courses or products)
- Number of times the voucher has been redeemed
- Number of remaining redemptions available
From this page, you can copy the voucher redemption URL by clicking the overlapping papers icon, or edit the voucher by clicking the gear icon.
The voucher redemption URL follows this format:https://your-site-url/local/vouchers/redeem.php?vouchercode=XXXXXXXX
When a user accesses a voucher redemption link, their experience will depend on their account status and site configuration:
- Existing users will be prompted to log in. Once authenticated, the voucher will be automatically redeemed.
- New users (if self-registration is enabled) will be prompted to create an account. After confirming their account, the voucher will be redeemed automatically.
Upon successful redemption, the user will see a confirmation message. If the associated product or benefit is immediately available, the user will be automatically redirected to it.
Voucher redemptions
Once a voucher has been redeemed, it will appear in the Voucher redemptions page.
This page provides a record of all voucher usage and can be sorted or filtered by user name for easier tracking.
For each redemption, the following information is displayed:
- User who redeemed the voucher
- Voucher title
- Benefit or product granted through the redemption
Voucher reports
In the ORE solution, a dedicated report source is available that provides comprehensive voucher data.
This report allows you to analyze and combine key voucher information, including:
- Creation date
- Maximum redemptions allowed
- Remaining redemptions
- Total number of redemptions
- Voucher title
- Associated benefits
- Benefit expiry date
- Voucher code
In addition, the report includes:
- Creator details (who generated the voucher)
- Redeemer information (who used the voucher)
- Course and category data
This enables administrators to track voucher usage, monitor distribution, and gain deeper insights into how vouchers are being used across the site.
